“Glacier fleas” are springtails, tiny arthropods that live in direct contact with ice—an environment where no other terrestrial animals can permanently survive.
These tiny creatures will be the focus of a talk in Valdieri on Friday, July 4, at 9:00 PM, in the Alberto Bianco Hall at the headquarters of the Alpi Marittime Protected Areas (Piazza Regina Elena 30).
The conference will be led by Dr. Barbara Valle, a researcher at the University of Siena, who will guide the audience through the discovery of a fascinating and still largely unknown biodiversity—now threatened by the rapid melting of glaciers. A journey through science and exploration, from the 1800s to Citizen Science, to learn more about these indicators of climate change.
